We have been given the opportunity to play in the Yorkshire Development League. The teams in this league consist of a mixture of adults and juniors (with no minimum or maximum age) allowing players an opportunity to play in a more relaxed environment where other options may not be available. It is 11-a-side and played on a full pitch.
The games are played on a Saturday and could be at any time and any location within the Yorkshire region. This year we decided not to enter the league in our own right (which would mean committing to playing every Saturday) but to go on a list of clubs who will be asked to play against teams whose opposition could not field a team. This gives us chance to see how we get on without stretching ourselves too far. It is not necessarily getting the team of Mini Bees together that will be a challenge, as I know how desperate they are to play hockey. As a small club, most of our seniors are still playing their own league hockey.
We obviously have no idea where or when our first game will be but we have asked to be given as much notice as possible to get a team together.
We are sure everyone will support us as much as you can when the call comes through for a game and, if this is a success, we will look to put our own team in next year. If we do not seem to be getting many games, we will also look to see if we can organise any local friendlies as we really do want our older Mini Bees to continue to get matches.
