Sunday 17th September 2017 saw our new U10s team take on Division B in the first of their 2017/18 fixtures. It was a damp start and a tough first game against a well drilled Ben Rhydding but the team weren’t disheartened especially as they had homemade biscuits to fuel them for the next games!! The games against Leeds and Leeds Adel were much more evenly matched with plenty of opportunities for defence and attack alike to show their skills. They did particularly well with short corners as some of the team had never done them before.
The spread of votes across the team for Man of Match proved how hard everyone worked with many of the players asking to be subbed as they had run their “new” socks off. The winner of Man of Match was eventually shared by Lydia and Millie who were both new to the team this year. Coach’s player went to Evie for playing in a number of different positions and defending well. Special mentions though have to go to Georgia, Leo and Sophie for some great attacks (so nearly scored) and sprints back into defence. Lydia for shining in midfield once she had been set her free from staying on the wing! Eva and Mia for a great defending duo and last but certainly not least Thomas for being a star in goal both for us and for Leeds Adel.
Our U10s team did themselves proud with their enthusiasm, sportsmanship (playing for other teams who were short of players) and the way they improved with each game. They also looked amazing in their new kit. We’re sure the sponsor of the team kit will be very pleased with how they looked and represented themselves.
A thank you to parents and grandparents for their cheering, Erica for her photography skills (we will try and remember the long lens next time) and finally Sharon for her umpiring.
