Yesterday our Bingley Bees Development Team of 2017/18 played their first match.
With two of the Development Team players still only 9 and the oldest only 13 compared to the minimum age of U14 lads from Halifax, it wasn’t a surprise that some in our Development Team felt a little unnerved by the size and age which they were going to be up against. However, once they were reminded that they were there because each and everyone of them deserved to be, they went on to the pitch wi…th their heads high, and they certainly didn’t disappoint.
Whilst the majority of the game was in our defensive half, it was only in the last seconds of the first half that Halifax managed to finally put a shot past our solid defence. After a much needed half time, the team went back out on the pitch with confidence.
The second half was always going to be tough for our team after such a high energy first half. Despite the great defending, tackling and marking from the whole team, Halifax put on the pressure with three more goals scored before the final whistle.
Amazing team work coupled with individual skill meant Halifax’s players, coaches and supporters were taken by surprise at how well our “little Bingley Bees” team played and gave us some lovely comments. The youngsters did their parents and club proud with their ability to get the tackles in, take on older more experienced players and to handle the jump to a full pitch.
Also we’d like to thank our seniors who supported the team.
